As the Edmonton Renovation Show approaches, one of the most anticipated features is Reset Your Table by Suzanne Kryton, the creative mind behind Suzanne Kryton Designs. Known for her practical yet stylish approach to interiors, Suzanne inspires us to turn everyday dining spaces into cozy, inviting retreats—perfect for entertaining throughout the winter months.

“Coming right off the busy holiday season, the New Year brings a renewed desire to host family and friends,” Suzanne shares. “Since our cold winters keep us inside for so long, it’s the perfect time to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere at home and try new recipes to share with loved ones.”

For Suzanne, the foundation of any great tablescape is simplicity. “A standout table starts with a clear theme or color palette,” she advises. “Stick to 2-3 colors, use placemats to add texture, and keep the plates and place settings uniform at every seat.” Uniformity, she explains, naturally creates cohesion and makes the design feel intentional. For affordable and stylish tableware, Suzanne turns to IKEA and Bouclair Home, both of which offer versatile options to suit any style. “These stores often have displays that make it easy to visualize and pull everything together,” she adds.

Transforming a table from casual to special occasion doesn’t have to be complicated. “Adding placemats and cloth napkins instantly elevates the look,” Suzanne suggests. “Pair those with a few candles, and you’ve created a warm, sophisticated atmosphere in minutes.” With these small, thoughtful additions, any table can become a beautiful centerpiece for gathering.

If budget is a concern, Suzanne has you covered. “It really doesn’t have to be complicated. A few taper candles and a bouquet—whether fresh or faux—can completely change the look of a table,” she explains. “Supermarket flowers in a nice vase look far more expensive than they are, and faux options from stores like Homesense can be reused throughout the year.” These simple, impactful elements can create a stunning effect without breaking the bank.

To keep tablescapes feeling fresh and relevant, Suzanne incorporates seasonal touches. “Adding floral or branch clippings that reflect the time of year is such an easy way to bring life to your table,” she says. In the winter, she loves using cedar boughs for a cozy, festive look, while spring calls for vibrant arrangements like fresh lilacs in a vase. These natural accents are cost-effective and add a personal, thoughtful layer to any tablescape.

For those hesitant to host, Suzanne’s advice is simple: don’t overthink it. “A common mistake is feeling too insecure to invite guests because the design feels unfinished,” she notes. “Cohesive table settings, matching placemats, and a centerpiece can go a long way in creating an inviting space.” She encourages hosts to embrace simplicity and let their personality shine through the decor. “Your table doesn’t have to be perfect—it just needs to feel warm and welcoming.”

Suzanne Kryton’s philosophy highlights the joy of hosting and the ease of creating beautiful, functional spaces. With her expert tips, a little planning, and some seasonal touches, anyone can turn their dining table into a place that sparks connection.
